Research Data

Resources for data storage, sharing, discovery, and archiving; archival storage, data commons, Databrary, and Scholarsphere are just a few. See also: Storage and Backups.

Box at Penn State

Box at Penn State offers secure, content-rich, and user-friendly data storage and content sharing. Box allows content to be stored online, so it can be accessed, managed, and shared from anywhere. Users can acess Box on mobile devices or seamlessly sync files to laptops or desktop computers.

Compliant Data Storage

The Office of Information Security Compliance team helps students, faculty, and staff understand their roles and responsibilities under Penn State and legal requirements.

Data and Media Disposition

When files are improperly or inadequately purged from storage media, it is often still possible to reconstruct or retrieve data. In order to mitigate the potentially significant risk of unauthorized disclosure of PSU information, storage media must be appropriately sanitized to prevent unauthorized access to, or disclosure of, sensitive institutional information.

Data Center Services

The Data Centers’ Colocation Center is a state-of-the-art facility where departments and units can relocate and securely house their business and research data. The service helps minimize the downtime related to power and environmental inefficiencies that often occur in smaller office locations.

Data Commons

Penn State's Data Commons provides a resource for data sharing, discovery, and archiving for the Penn State research and teaching community.

Data Transfer Services

There are many different ways to transfer data to and from ICS-ACI, including:

Databrary

Databrary, a joint project of Penn State and NYU, is a web-based data library for developmental scientists to securely store, manage, share, discover, and reuse research data, including videos, audio files, procedures and stimuli, and related metadata.

High Performance Computing on AWS/Azure

The Cloud Program provides access to cloud-based IT Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for easy and rapid acquisition, development, and scaling of resources. Cloud computing meets users’ needs in a secure manner without the requirement to purchase and maintain physical hardware.

Open Access

Open Access is a publishing model that makes works freely available, eliminating the cost associated with obtaining and using scholarly works. Open Access allows researchers to share their work with a broad audience free of restrictions.

Pennsylvania Spatial Data Access (PASDA)

Pennsylvania Spatial Data Access (PASDA) is Pennsylvania's official public access open geospatial data portal. PASDA was developed in 1995 by the Pennsylvania State University and has served as the geospatial data portal for Pennsylvania for over twenty three years.

Research Data Acquisition

A "Data Use Agreement" (DUA) is an agreement from a Data Provider that requires a signature/e-signature, or must be acknowledges in some other way in order to recieve data from another party.

Research Data Management

The Penn State Libraries hosts the Research Data Management (RDM) Team and offers data management consultations, workshops, information sesions, access to funding opportunities, and guidance on both tools and data repositories. The RDM team is also available to consult on the creation of data management plans (DMP).

Research Data Services Statistical Consultation

The Penn State Libraries' Research Data Services team provides statistical consultation; from data collection to interpretation of results, RDS helps users utilize statistical software for data analysis.
