ORCiD
Overview:
ORCiD provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes researchers from one another. This means that it will be less likely that your name will be confused with another researcher with a similar name, ensuring that the you get the cretid that you deserve for your work. Unlike a Penn State Access ID, work email, or identification number, your ORCiD ID follows you when you move. You can include your ORCiD identifier on your publications, grants and even your web page. You can also link your ORCiD ID to other services such as LinkedIn and Researcher ID.
Once an ORCiD account has been created, users can complete a profile describing employment history, funding record, and publishing record. In many cases, when writing a grant or submitting a manuscript for publication, linking to an ORCiD ID is built into the workflow.

- All researchers are elligible to link an ORCiD ID to their Penn State Access Account; graduate students and faculty researchers are especially encouraged to apply
Costs:
- ORCiD is a non-profit organization funded through organizational membership and subscription fees, but there is no cost to the individual researcher for utilizing the ORCiD service
