Computing

Cloud computing, high-performance computing, private cloud services, and more.

Data Center Services

The Data Centers’ Colocation Center is a state-of-the-art facility where departments and units can relocate and securely house their business and research data. The service helps minimize the downtime related to power and environmental inefficiencies that often occur in smaller office locations.

Desktop Computing

Desktop Computers (and Laptops, Tablets, etc.) for researchers and their staffs are most often obtained via a Local IT unit (College IT, Campus IT, or Institute IT, as the case may be).  Desktop Computers are in some cases provided as a basic service by Local IT.  In other cases, Desktop Computers may be procured with research-specific funds (assuming the costs are allowable under research acco

Enterprise IT Cloud Program

The Cloud Program provides access to cloud-based IT Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for easy and rapid acquisition, development, and scaling of resources. Cloud computing meets users’ needs in a secure manner without the requirement to purchase and maintain physical hardware.

GPU Computing

The Institute for CyberScience’s Advanced Cyber Infrastructure (ICS-ACI) provides compute and data storage services via a “GReaT” (Guaranteed Response Time) model subscription plan. The Provost is providing substantial additional funds to encourage the use of ICS-ACI services for University-sponsored research.

High Performance Computing on AWS/Azure

The Cloud Program provides access to cloud-based IT Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for easy and rapid acquisition, development, and scaling of resources. Cloud computing meets users’ needs in a secure manner without the requirement to purchase and maintain physical hardware.

High Performance Computing on ICS-ACI

The Institute for CyberScience provides high-performance computing solutions through the Advanced CyberInfrastructure (ICS-ACI) system. ICS-ACI is Penn State’s high-performance research cloud.

High Throughput Computing on AWS/Azure

The Cloud Program provides access to cloud-based IT Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for easy and rapid acquisition, development, and scaling of resources. Cloud computing meets users’ needs in a secure manner without the requirement to purchase and maintain physical hardware.

High Throughput Computing on ICS-ACI

The Institute for CyberScience provides high-performance computing solutions through the Advanced CyberInfrastructure (ICS-ACI) ICS-ACI is Penn State’s high-performance research cloud.

Programming Resources

Penn State provides programmers with a rich variety of resources to help them start their learning path or maintain the skills they already have.

Secure Enclaves

Secure Enclaves are a key part of Penn State’s overarching security strategy. They help administrative and research areas achieve regulatory and contractural compliance for high-risk data types. Enclaves protect data through a secure computing infrastructure that meets baseline compliance needs and provides integrated security.

Server Hosting at AWS/Azure

The Cloud Program provides access to cloud-based IT Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for easy and rapid acquisition, development, and scaling of resources. Cloud computing meets users’ needs in a secure manner without the requirement to purchase and maintain physical hardware.

Server Hosting at VM Hosting

Penn State's VM Hosting service provides cost-effective, reliable Virtual Machines (VM) for departments, colleges, and research units at Penn State University.

Server Hosting for Physical Servers

The purchase of a physical server or purpose-driven computational appliance should be limited to cases of necessity, driven by specific needs that cannot be otherwise met.

Systems Administration and Security

Researchers often need to run servers, clusters, or groups of desktop and laptop computers as a core part of their research projects. These computational resources should be professionally administered, particularly with respect to IT Security.
